Our Story

How it all started...

River of Life has a rich history in the San Luis Valley. In 1931 Paul and Pauline Jones began a church in Del Norte Co. In 1934 Reverend Zook became pastor of the Del Norte Assembly of God.

In February of 1934 Paul and Pauline Jones moved to Alamosa to pioneer River of Life Assembly of God in Alamosa. They first started out in a store front and lived in the back of the church.

In early 1937 Reverend and Mrs. Smith McAtee came to pastor. The congregation built a small Adobe building on the corner of 9th and Denver.

In 1961 Pastor Lloyd A. Long and the congregation purchased a building on the corner of 10th and State.

In 1982 Reverend Steve Smith and the Congregation purchased property and built a new church on our present location 2602 Clark St.

In 1999 the name was changed from River of Life Assembly of God.

Rev. Dominguez and his wife Stella came to pastor in March of 2019.

Expanding the vision...

Expanding the vision of our church means looking beyond where we are today and embracing the greater purpose God has for our congregation. It calls us to reach more people with the hope of the Gospel, strengthen discipleship, serve our community with compassion, and create opportunities for every person to discover and use their God-given gifts. As we move forward together in faith, unity, and prayer, we trust that God will open new doors, enlarge our influence, and empower us to make a lasting impact for His kingdom. Our vision is not simply to grow in numbers, but to grow in love, faith, and faithful service to Christ.

Where we are headed...

Our church is headed into a season of greater purpose, deeper faith, and expanded impact. We envision a future where lives are transformed through the love of Christ, families are strengthened, and our community is reached with hope and compassion. As we move forward together, we are committed to developing leaders, equipping disciples, embracing the next generation, and creating opportunities for people to grow in their relationship with God. With faith as our foundation and God's guidance leading the way, we believe our greatest days are still ahead.
